The Johnson County Taupe is Finally Gone
The Fourth of July Weekend was dominated by two events: painting the living room and attending Dan and Hillary's wedding.
At least one of these events was a success. We selected Seaside Villa and Fishnet [blue and green, respectively] for the top and bottom of the walls which we'll separate with chair rails. We then used the Seaside Villa to paint the stairwell and Fishnet in a downstairs hallway that's visible from the Family Room so the colors all tie together nicely.
The door for the room over the garage should be in next week so we can take care of that. Hopefully we can get a couple more doors upstairs taken care of at the same time, replacing the tired flat slab doors with doors that have more character. We had talked about installing a bunch of solid core doors but the pre-hung hollow core doors are so inexpensive that we will likely end up sticking with them. More on that in the next couple of weeks.
We still want to get more art to fill out the house and I'm working with some artistically minded friends to get some pictures done. We still have the kitchen to paint and furnish but the inside of the house is starting to come together.
Thanks Valspar!

Well, I guess I worry too much.
Katie's Birthday parties went SPECTACULARLY.
The first party was a cocktail party for Katie, Mom and Dad and the grandparents.
Debi and I busted out the "special occasion" lazy susan and filled it with finger foods. We got pizza for the adults to tide them over for their drives home.
It took awhile for things to get going but getting the Grandmas to play Carnival Games for Wii. I think the idea of carnies appealed to the down home midwestern values. And boy, did that game have carnies.
Carnies.
The next day was the day I was dreading: visiting The Rat. aka Chuck E Cheese. They even had the gall to put it within walking distance of a Hooters. But no, no Hooters for me. They have tasty wings.
But we had a good time at Chuck E Cheese. It seems that the place is less popular on nice summer days so we effectively had the entire party area to ourselves. And the system is set up to make the birthday boy or girl feel special.
And Katie loves her bird book.
Happy Birthday, Sweetie.
