Best Year Ever?
This may be the best start to a college
football season ever for me. As a fan, I've cheered for three school-
2 alma maters and one school I wish I had gone to:
University of South Carolina
University of Kansas
University of Illinois
And
all three are experiencing near-unprecendented success. It's certainly
unprecedented that all three are successful at the same time.
Go Cocks!
Steve
Spurrier has led the 'Cocks to a place I never thought I'd see: they're
a good football team. I can now say that I expect them to win most
games they play, instead of just hoping. And they play with a brand of
controlled aggression that I've never seen from them.
The
Cocks have had a bad habit of losing at least one game they should win
and losing all the games they should lose. But after beating Georgia
on the road and handing Kentucky at home, I can see Carolina winning
all their divisional games except Florida and if they can get past
Florida, Arkansas and Clemson that would make for an SEC Championship
Game bid.
Wow.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk
Yeah,
Dude is fat with his own gravity field. But he has taken KU to an
undefeated season with a road win over in state rival K-State [they of
the Power Towel].
A lights out offense and timely defense
is carrying the team so far. The rest of their games are winnable with
Baylor,Nebraska and Iowa State at home, Colorado, A&M and Oklahoma
State on the road and Missouri at Camarohead. A ten win season is
possible and a trip to the Big 12 ChampionshipGame stands as the upside
of the season.
On the other hand, losses to Colorado,
Nebraska, A&M, Oklahoma State and Missouri are also possible. So
KU could finish with anything from an undefeated regular season record
to 7-5 and a trip to the Fort Worth Bowl.
Don't Mess With the Zooker
The Fighting Illini have been one of the worst programs in the Big Ten since a Sugar Bowl trouncing at the hands of LSU in 2001.
But
it's turning around. Led by a dynamic young offense, the Illini are
undefeated in conference with wins over Penn State and Wisconsin. The
toughest game remaining on the schedule is a road game against Ohio
State on the 10th of November- a game that may be for the conference
title.
Truly exciting times in Champaign- Zook got the
talent base up in a hurry and now is coaching them solidly, defying the
conventional wisdom after he was forced out of Florida. Now we'll see
if he can take the Fighting Illini to the next level.
