Debi's Touching it Up Now.
The next step of the house project is being wrapped up as I type- repainting the upstairs hallway.
It needed the attention.
The hallway was an off-white color but was very, very dark. So we're painting it some shade of yellow to brighten it up.
I'm sure I could look the color up, but know that it is a shade from Valspar's Seaside Retreat palette. It seemed like a natural fit for our 65 year old Cape Cod and it is living up to the challenge.
Of course, the color palette will also dictate other interior design changes such as the choice of wall art which we've never really given much thought to. But since we both come from Navy families, I think there may be a tie to the sea- not the visceral tie that our fathers have but a tie nonetheless. I know there are some pictures that I'd like based on places that I've lived, with some of my earliest and most vivid memories being of waves crashing against the rocks in Newport, Rhode Island.
And a picture of a tetrapod would be neat as well.

Time to turn our focus outside
Although we still have a lot of work to do on the inside of the house, it's time to turn our immediate attention to the outside of the house. Since this was the first really nice weekend to get a lot of outside work done, we took advantage of it.

We lost a friend last week.
Our cat, Pepe moved on to that Big Barn in the Sky.
He was getting on in years, losing weight and complaining a lot. When I left the back door slightly ajar, he made a break for freedom.
He made it to the next door neighbor's yard before dying.
I wrapped him up in plastic and buried him next to the side of the house.
Seems like a rather undignified end for the member of Debi's Vegas family who took me in right away. I'd known that cat for almost 9 years. He was demanding, aloof and ornery all at the same time, so you could see how we would be friends.
